Common questions about digital inventory and on-demand manufacturing.

What is digital inventory?
Digital inventory is the practice of storing parts as production-ready digital files instead of physical stock. When you need a part, it's manufactured on-demand through our Canadian manufacturing network, not pulled from a warehouse. This eliminates carrying costs, obsolescence risk, and locked capital.
How does The Assembly network work?
We work with vetted Canadian additive manufacturers across the country. When you need a part, our platform routes your order to the optimal producer based on capability, capacity, and location. Parts are manufactured locally and delivered in days, not months.
What types of parts can you produce?
Our network produces industrial components, spare parts, replacement parts, and custom items across multiple sectors including OEMs, marine, industrial equipment, HVAC, and aerospace. We work with a range of materials and manufacturing processes.
What if I don't have CAD files for my parts?
No problem. We can digitize physical parts through 3D scanning and reverse engineering. Our team handles the conversion from physical part to production-ready digital file, including material specifications and quality documentation.
What are your minimum order quantities?
There are no minimum order quantities. Our on-demand model is designed for producing exactly what you need, when you need it, whether that's one part or hundreds. This is what makes digital inventory work.
How long does production and delivery take?
Most parts are produced and delivered within 3-5 business days across Canada. Because production happens locally, you avoid the 8-12 week lead times typical of overseas manufacturing.
How do you protect our intellectual property?
Security is built into our architecture. Files are processed locally, never stored on public cloud infrastructure. All transfers are encrypted, and we use granular access controls. We meet aerospace, defense, and industrial security requirements.
What manufacturing technologies do you support?
Our network includes FDM/FFF printing, SLA/resin printing, SLS printing, metal printing, and CNC machining. We also offer post-processing services including painting, plating, heat treatment, and assembly.
How does pricing work?
Pricing is based on part complexity, material, and quantity. We provide transparent quotes with no hidden fees. Use our ROI calculator to see how digital inventory compares to your current carrying costs.
How do I become a manufacturing partner?
We're always looking for qualified Canadian additive manufacturers to join our network. The process includes capability assessment, quality verification, and onboarding. Visit our For Producers page to learn more and apply.
What support do you provide?
We handle the complexity: digitization, file management, production routing, quality verification, and logistics coordination. You get a single point of contact and full visibility into your orders.
